Selecting the correct pickup pattern
When purchasing a microphone, you should always determine the sound pattern best-suited for your application. A sound pattern controls the direction from which a mic will pick up sound. ~Omnidirectional: Pattern picks up sound from all directions. Ideal for meetings where people share a single table-top mic and for lavalier microphones. ~Cardiod: Unidirectional pattern ideal for presentations where ambient noise is to be avoided or reduced. ~Supercardiod: Slightly tighter pattern than the cardiod. Useful with multiple mic set-ups or where pick-up of adjacent sound sources is a concern.
